Body of 23-year-old woman found near a Macon intersection. Victim identified

A dead body was found near a south Macon intersection Thursday afternoon, according to the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.

The body was found in an embankment in the 2200 block of Rocky Creek Road near Robinhood Road, Coroner Leon Jones said.

The woman was found dead while “investigators were following up on the missing persons report,” Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White said at the scene. The circumstances of the death “appeared to be a hit-and-run,” Mitchell-White said.

The body was found just before 11:30 a.m., and Deputy Coroner Luann Stone pronounced her dead, Mitchell-White said.

The victim was identified as Ronni Nykole Abbott, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials from the coroner’s office were at the scene around 12:35 p.m.

It was unclear as of 2:30 p.m. if this was a criminal investigation.
