60-year-old Macon man arrested, charged in killing of homeless person
A Macon man has been arrested and charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a person experiencing homelessness from Fort Valley last month in a wooded area along Harrison Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 60-year-old Timothy Alan Hurt, of Macon, following a weeks-long investigation. Hurt is accused of killing 46-year-old Nelson Reynolds Crenshaw, of Fort Valley, authorities said Tuesday afternoon.
BSO Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White confirmed in an email that Hurt was homeless.
The shooting happened near a homeless encampment on Eisenhower Parkway and Harrison Road, Coroner Leon Jones previously told The Telegraph.
Deputies responded to a 911 call at about 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 31 reporting that a male had been shot in the 6000 block of Harrison Road. When deputies arrived, they found Crenshaw unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.
Paramedics transported Crenshaw to a nearby medical facility, but he later died from his injuries, police said.
Authorities identified Hurt as a suspect during the investigation.
Hurt was detained and transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where he is currently being held without bond on a murder charge.
The sheriff’s office urges anyone with information about the case to contact investigators at 478-751-7500 or reach out to Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
The case remains under active investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available, police said.
This is a developing story.
