Teen accused of shooting woman, setting home on fire in Macon gets arrested
The teen who allegedly lit a home on fire and shot a woman last week was captured by the U.S. Marshals and booked into the Bibb County Jail, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Nicholas Ishmael Floyd, 18, was arrested Friday at 9:30 a.m. at a residence in the 4000 block of Summer Hill Drive, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Deputies believe he was connected to an incident from July 17, in which he allegedly set a house on fire, shot a woman and barricaded himself inside a home with a 12-year-old boy.
Floyd faces aggravated assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment charges. He is being held without bond, according to deputies.
SWAT team recovered the 12-year-old boy
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 4000 block of Summer Hill Drive on July 17, where they made contact with a 52-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. They met with her on Log Cabin Drive near Presidential Parkway, deputies said.
She claimed that Floyd had shot her somewhere in the 1700 block of Madden Avenue after he had set a house on fire, according to deputies.
Then, Floyd took a 12-year-old boy to a home in the 4000 block of Summer Hill Drive, where he “barricaded himself inside, armed,” deputies said. Summer Hill Drive sits off Mercer University Drive near Log Cabin Drive, which is about 3 miles from the shooting and the fire.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, hostage negotiators and patrol deputies responded to the house, where the SWAT team was able to enter the home, recover the 12-year-old boy and return him to his family unharmed.
He fled the scene and was at-large for about eight days before being captured at a home in the 4000 block of Summer Hill Drive.
It is unclear if the house where Floyd was captured is the same home he used when he barricaded himself inside with the child. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.
Deputies encourage anyone with information on the incident to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
