Homicides have declined in Macon, records show. Here’s where they’re happening
Homicides have declined in 2025 compared to 2024 in Macon, according to records from the Bibb County Coroner’s Office.
There have been 14 homicides reported so far this year, compared to 21 by this date last year, or a roughly 67% decline, records show.
Gun violence has been the leading cause of the deaths, most of which happened in west Macon neighborhoods.
All but one victim have died from gunshot wounds, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The other, Breele Jahiem Johnson, was stabbed to death at the Bibb County Jail.
The greatest number of shootings occurred in zip code 31204. Six people were killed there, including three during a mass shooting at Midtown Daiquiri Bar & Grill, where six others were injured.
Three people were killed in the 31206 zip code, two in the 31217 zip code, two in the 31201 zip code and one in the 31210 zip code, according to the sheriff’s office.
Half of the victims were in their 30s, and five were in their 20s. The youngest victim was 21 years old and the oldest was 62.
Suspects in at least eight of the alleged homicides have been arrested. Some cases involved more than one suspect, according to previous news releases from deputies.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately respond to The Telegraph’s request for incident reports or updates on the cases.
