What we know about Macon triple murder suspect found in South Carolina
A man accused of three murders at a Macon bar was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor in South Carolina Tuesday.
South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested Muchman Bond III around midnight Tuesday morning for allegedly possessing 28 grams or less of marijuana, according to a log of detainees at the Richland County Detention Center in Columbia. He was still incarcerated Friday afternoon.
Amid an investigation by local, state and federal authorities, Bond was at-large for more than a week after the shooting that killed three people and injured six on May 18, at Midtown Daiquiri Bar & Grill.
A state trooper pulled Bond over because his vehicle was connected to a wanted person, said Master Trooper William Bennett, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He was stopped in Columbia while driving east on Interstate 20 around mile marker 64 on Tuesday.
“We got a (be-on-the-lookout) for him,” Master Trooper William Bennett told The Telegraph. “Our trooper performed a traffic stop on him, then of course found out he was wanted.”
The trooper allegedly found Bond had marijuana in the vehicle, saw he was wanted, and arrested him, Bennett said.
Bond was granted a bond of $615 regarding the drug-related charge, according to the detention center, but he was still in custody Friday.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office can request that the Richland County jail keeps Bond detained, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, though the sheriff’s department was not the arresting agency and isn’t part of Bond’s cases.
“This does not mean he will be released if Bibb County has requested he be held pending extradition,” RCSD Master Deputy Allie Salrin said of the suspect’s bond.
Bond is expected to be transferred to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center once his drug-related charge is resolved, according to Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
“Muchman Bond III has unrelated charges that he must have resolved in South Carolina before being transported to Georgia,” Mitchell-White said.
A judge signed arrest warrants for Bond, who faced three charges of murder for the deaths of Javarsia Meadows, 24; Jedarrius Meadows Jr., 28; and Javonta Faulks, 32, the sheriff’s office said.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office initially said Bond was 24 years old, but the Richland County Detention Center indicates he’s 25.
South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Richland County Detention Center did not respond to The Telegraph’s request for comment prior to publication.
The shooting was still under investigation Friday, Mitchell-White said.
Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and Sheriff David Davis removed a temporary alcohol license from Midtown Daiquiri Bar & Grill after the shooting. They said they would not comment on the matter until the sheriff’s office completes its investigation.
