A live bomb was found inside of a tool box in Warner Robins Friday afternoon, the Warner Robins Police Department announced.
The “new owners” of a used tool box found a “suspected hand grenade” inside, police said in a news release Friday afternoon.
The incident was reported around 2:20 p.m. at 109 Sun Valley Drive, in a neighborhood off Carl Vinson Parkway, according to police.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit responded to the scene to check if the grenade was active.
“The grenade was confirmed to be a live explosive and the area has been secured until the device is rendered safe,” WRPD said around 3:30 p.m.
Police initially warned people to stay away. It took about two hours until the area was considered safe, according to police.
“The device was secured and the area is now safe for normal travel,” the police department said in a news release around 4:15 p.m.
WRPD did not respond to The Telegraph’s request for further details by Monday. It was initially unclear where the tool box was found.
The incident was still under investigation Monday afternoon.
Police urged anyone with information related to the incident to call Detective Matthew Chittenden at 478-302-5380, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
