Macon murder prosecution paused by DA’s office. Why missing witness is halting case
Prosecutors paused a Macon murder suspect’s case as they search for crucial witnesses, court records from Monday show.
Jacorey Meadows’ case, which charged him with the murder of Donovan Cason and Kabryan Johnson after a fight in downtown Macon in July 2021, was placed on the “dead docket” by Assistant District Attorney Tony May of the Macon Judicial Court and will be paused indefinitely as the district attorney’s office searches for two material witnesses they say are “evading service and refusing cooperation,” according to court documents.
One of the witnesses that District Attorney Anita Howard’s office is looking for is Joshua Cason, whose testimony is vital to bringing justice to the victim’s families and community as well as maintaining public safety, they said Thursday.
“When violent crimes go unsolved due to lack of witness cooperation, it emboldens criminals and puts all our neighbors at risk,” the district attorney’s office said Thursday.
They’re offering a $500 reward to the first person who calls the district attorney’s office at 478-719-6303 and shares Cason’s location. All information will be kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
May also requested that Meadows’ case be paused while he and Meadows’ attorneys review new evidence from two cell phones opened by brute force, court documents show.
The district attorney’s office didn’t respond to request for comment prior to publication.
