Deputies initially said driver ‘lost control’ in fatal Macon crash. Now suspect charged
A man turned himself into law enforcement Thursday about a month after a fatal vehicle crash in Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies initially said a Chevrolet Silverado utility truck driver “lost control of his vehicle” and struck a pickup truck parked in an emergency lane on Interstate 16 West on Dec. 21, 2024.
Thirty-seven-year-old John Patrick Pace of Soperton was inside the pickup truck and died at the scene, according to Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley.
Paul James Evans was booked in connection to the crash and held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center around 11 a.m. Thursday, deputies said in a news release. It was unclear if Evans drove the Chevrolet or how he was involved in the crash.
Evans was wanted in Bibb County in connection with the death of Pace, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain lane, according to the news release.
