Macon man arrested in Log Cabin Drive shooting after car chase, sheriff’s office says

A suspect in a recent Macon shooting attempted to flee from deputies before he was arrested, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting on Log Cabin Drive Saturday afternoon left a 58-year-old woman in critical condition, investigators said.

Video footage from the incident showed a black vehicle, later identified as a Hyundai, fleeing from the scene, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The criminal intelligence unit notified investigators it was spotted in the Bloomfield area. Investigators saw the car parked, but then moved, deputies explained.

“Investigators ... attempted to initiate a traffic stop by activating lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop,” deputies said.

The driver, later identified as 32-year-old Isaiah Justus Whitehead, “began throwing items outside of the vehicle,” then briefly drove away from deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Macon man was eventually arrested Monday just before 4 p.m. on Joycliff Road, and taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, according to Deputy Alexis Mitchell-White. Whitehead was charged with aggravated assault.
