A Macon teenager died Sunday night after he was hurt during a car chase with Bibb sheriff’s deputies earlier last month, officials said.

Brandon Hill, 15, and a 16-year-old reportedly stole a car from the Exxon station on 584 Emery Highway at about 1 a.m. Aug. 14, according to a statement from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Hill was identified by Bibb County coroner Leon Jones.

The two teenagers drove away from the gas station before police tried to pull them over and a car chase began. When the 16-year-old driver tried to hit a police car with the stolen car during the chase, deputies crashed the car.

The car flipped on Broadway near downtown Macon, injuring both the teenagers. Hill died at 7 p.m. Sunday night at a local hospital from his injuries in the crash, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. His next of kin were notified, Jones said.

The sheriff’s office did not release additional details about the crash investigation.
