Two Macon teens in critical condition following police chase, man dead after separate wreck
Two car crashes, one following a police chase, left one dead and two critically injured in Macon over the weekend, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said.
The fatal collision happened on Interstate 475 at about 11 p.m. Saturday when a car driving down the highway hit a pedestrian, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The driver of a Ford Mustang, 19, hit a man walking down the freeway.
Bibb coroner Leon Jones identified the pedestrian killed as Waford Dan Bolen, 37, according to the statement. His next of kin was notified. No one else was injured in the collision.
Police chase, crash
The second crash happened after a police chase in the early hours of Monday morning ended with a car flipping into a telephone pole, fire hydrant and fence on Broadway, the sheriff’s office said. The chase began when deputies saw a car reported as stolen at about 1 a.m. Monday at the Exxon station on 584 Emery Highway.
Two youths aged 15 and 16 got into the stolen car and, when deputies tried to pull them over, sped off, the statement said. After driving down Coliseum Drive and onto Broadway the driver tried to hit a patrol car during the chase, but deputies crashed the car to end the pursuit.
Emergency services took both the driver and passenger to a local hospital after the car flipped. The 15-year-old was in critical condition after the crash while the driver, 16, was in the hospital but in stable condition, the statement said.
Both incidents are still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
