Two men fatally shot over deadly weekend in Macon, first homicides since July 1
Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating two shootings over the weekend in Macon that left two people dead and four others wounded.
Officials said a large group of people gathered in the 800 block of Woodard Avenue near its intersection with Carnation Street early Saturday morning at home where alcohol was being sold illegally. “Several people” got into a fight and began shooting at each other.
Calvin Thomas Hugley Jr. was shot and killed. Two women and one man were also injured and transported to a local hospital.
Sunday shooting
Deputies found Robert Evans, 30, wounded near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Poplar Street in downtown Macon just after 4 a.m. Sunday morning. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
Officials said Evans had gotten into a fight and, after the fight, someone fired several shots at him. Another man walking down the sidewalk was wounded and transported to a local hospital.
The homicides were the 27th and 28th in Macon this year, and the first violent killings since July 1.
