Man killed at apartment off Emery Highway in east Macon across from Fort Hawkins

A 28-year-old Macon man was shot and killed late Tuesday at an apartment off Emery Highway on the city’s east side, officials said.

The victim, Quenton Varnard Woodson, was found fatally wounded shortly after 11 p.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Circumstances surrounding Woodson’s death were not immediately known.

The apartment complex where Woodson died, at 847 Maynard Circle, lies just across Emory Highway along Maynard Street, across the highway from historic Fort Hawkins.

His death was the county’s 13th homicide of 2022 — 11 of which have been the result of gunshot wounds. Six of the 13 slayings happened in January, five were in February and Woodson’s was the second this month. There were 54 homicides countywide last year.
