Man dead after shooting at Napier Avenue apartments. It’s Macon’s 6th homicide of 2022

A man was found shot to death in the doorway of a Napier Avenue apartment about midday Friday, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Details of the 11:30 a.m. shooting, which happened at The Woods apartment complex at 4017 Napier Ave., were not immediately available.

Jones later identified the victim as Deuntay Lashavi Hicks, who had turned 21 on Sunday.

The coroner said that Hicks lived at the apartment where he was killed and that Hicks suffered “multiple” gunshot wounds.

The violent episode marks the county’s sixth homicide of 2022 and is the eighth shooting death here in the past 32 days.

The apartments where the shooting occurred sit a block southeast of the intersection of Ayers Road, Park Street and Napier, and roughly a quarter-mile due south of the well-traveled crossroads at Vineville Avenue and Forest Hill Road.

Macon set a modern-day record with 54 homicides in 2021, 43 of which are, so far, considered murders.
