20-year-old dead after he was shot multiple times outside Pendleton Homes in Macon
A 20-year-old Macon man was shot and killed early Saturday morning.
Octavius Savon Nixon was found unresponsive by Bibb sheriff’s deputies outside Building O of Pendleton Homes off Houston Avenue at 6:09 a.m. He was lying in the grass, according to the sheriff’s office.
Nixon was shot multiple times and had wounds to the head and arm, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. Nixon was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. in the back of an ambulance on scene.
His grandmother, Patricia Nixon, said he lived with her and her husband at their apartment in Pendleton Homes.
Two ladies who live in the large apartment complex and were out walking early Saturday went to Nixon’s apartment to tell her that her grandson had been shot, she said.
Nixon arrived to see him lifted off the ground and put in an ambulance, where emergency medical workers attempted to revive him. She said she was asked to identify his body in the ambulance.
“I got to the ambulance. I wanted to faint, but I had to hold myself up. I had to be strong for my husband,” Nixon said. “That was my grandson, Octavius Savon Nixon.”
He would have turned 21 on July 27, she said.
“My grandson, he was low-key, real quiet,” Patricia Nixon said. “He liked to go places by himself.
“He was an outgoing person. He didn’t bother nobody ... I love him and I miss him and I just can’t believe he’s gone,” she said.
He worked at McDonald’s, was a graduate of Rutland High School and had attended college in Albany, she said.
Nixon said she helped raise him with her daughter, Yosmin Latrell Nixon, who died about six ago. He has two brothers who live out-of-town.
The circumstances of the shooting and the motive behind it remain under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office. No suspect information was available by mid-afternoon Saturday.
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the shooting as a homicide.
