Dad pulled out gun during argument with parent at Houston County school drop-off, cops say
A Bonaire man was arrested after he “brandished” a handgun after he got into a dispute with another parent during the morning drop off at a Houston County school.
Arthur Jordan, 49, was charged with carrying a weapon within a school safety zone and reckless conduct, according to a Houston County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The gun was never pointed at anyone, and no one was hurt, the release said.
During the morning drop off of students at Veterans High, Jordan got into a disagreement with another parent over who was supposed to “go ahead of the other” and Jordan got out of his vehicle with the gun, the release said.
Both charges are misdemeanors.
Jordan and other parent were both pulling up at the drop off about the same time and both became increasingly angry with the each other, said Houston County sheriff’s Lt. Kent Bankston.
At one point, the other parent, a woman, attempted to drive around Jordan, and that’s when Jordan got his gun out of his car, Bankston said.
Jordan told authorities that he kept the gun down at his side and that he got the gun because he thought the other parent was going to run him over, Bankston said.
However, after talking with witnesses, authorities don’t believe that was the case, Bankston said.
“It really escalated over something stupid,” Bankston said.
Jordan was being held Friday afternoon at the Houston County Jail waiting for a judge to set bond.
