Man shot by cashier during attempted armed robbery at North Macon restaurant, sheriff says
A man was shot in the leg by a cashier at a local Chinese restaurant about 8 p.m. Saturday night during an attempted armed robbery, according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s office.
David Deangelo Vazquez, 27, entered the China Inn at 3268 Vineville Ave, pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded money.
The cashier pulled out a handgun and shot at Vazquez, the release said.
Vazquez ran from the restaurant while firing shots back at the armed worker who returned fire, the release said.
Vazquez was shot in his right leg and went to the Medical Center, Navicent Health for treatment of the wound. That’s where he was arrested by sheriff’s deputies on an armed robbery charge.
No one else was hurt and no charges are being filed against the worker at the China Inn.
This marks the second time that an attempted armed robbery has been stopped by a store clerk in the last week.
On Friday night at the Subway on Pio Nono Avenue, a worker sprayed pepper juice in the eye of the man who demanded money. Less than two hours later, the same man robbed the Subway on Hartley Bridge Road by the Kroger.
Anyone with information on either case is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or call the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
