‘Persons of interest’ sought in robbery at Macon bank ATM
Two months after a Brinks Guard employee was robbed in an ambush at the ATM machine of a Macon bank, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help with identifying two people of interest in the theft.
The guard was servicing the ATM at BB&T on Gray Highway before noon Sept. 5 when a man came up behind him and knocked into him and took a bag of cash.
Just after the robbery, deputies were on the lookout for a black man about 6 feet 2 inches tall, who wore a long-sleeved light blue shirt, black and orange tennis shoes and blue jeans. Deputies also were searching for a four-door Dodge Avenger with a Clayton County tag.
The same car was captured on surveillance video at another location. Images from the video surveillance were released to news outlets late Tuesday.
Also on Sept. 5, the BB&T bank in Forsyth was robbed. Authorities have not said whether the two bank robberies are believed to be related.
Anyone with information on the vehicle or persons of interest is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
