Gunman demands contents of safe, settles for cash in Subway robbery

For the second night, a gunman demanded access to a safe but had to settle for the contents of the cash register.

At about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, a man with a gun came into the Subway at 3624 Mercer University Drive and told the employee to open the safe and cash register, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The worker was not able to open the safe, but did open the register of the restaurant not far from Bloomfield Road.

The gunman took the cash and the employee’s cellphone and ran out of the restaurant, headed toward Mercer University Drive.

The robber is described as a tall, slender, black man wearing a long navy blue shirt, black pants and black shoes.

Monday night, two gunmen demanded access to the safe robbed the Dollar General on Pio Nono Avenue.

When they couldn’t get access to the safe, they took a cash register drawer and fired shots back at the building as they ran away.

Anyone with information about the robberies or the gunmen is urged to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
