Going out of business sales are underway at two stores in Warner Robins.

A few of the shelves are already empty at the Walgreens at 1880 Watson Blvd., which posted a sign on its glass doors that it’s closing permanently Feb. 17.

Meanwhile, Big Lots at 2191 Watson Blvd. is offering up to 40% off merchandise with its “store closing” sale. The store’s lease is up.

Here’s the latest on what’s happening with these two retailers:

Walgreens

The closing of the 1880 Watson Blvd. store is among 1,200 Walgreens shutting down permanently nationwide over the next three years. In all, 500 Walgreens are expected to close in 2025.

Much of what’s sold in the Warner Robins store is marked down, with shoppers seen filling their carts with sales items such as toilet paper and paper towels during a recent visit.

Prescriptions will continue to be filled at the store until it closes, according to the Walgreens website.

The website includes a page where existing customers can learn about transferring their prescriptions to one of the three remaining Walgreens stores in Warner Robins.

Walgreens has not released a list of specific store closings but pharmacy customers can expect to receive a letter in the event their store is shutting down, according to the website.

Big Lots

All Big Lots across the country launched “going out of business” sales after the company’s previously announced asset purchase agreement with Nexus Capital Management fell through. Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and closed more than 400 stores in 2024.

Then, Big Lots announced that it had reached a deal with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. The global asset firm announced that the deal would keep hundreds of stores open and save the jobs of thousands of employees.

But even with the restructuring, the process also is expected to result in significant Big Lots store closings across the country.

Gordon Brothers Retail Partners has announced that expiring leases of Big Lots are up for sale, an indication that those stores may close permanently.

The Big Lots in Warner Robins is on the extensive list of stores with expiring leases, while the Macon store at 195 Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. and other Big Lots in Georgia are not on the list.

The Macon store has posted both “store closing” and “now hiring” signs on its storefront.

Meanwhile, the Big Lots website stated Wednesday that all stores are closing, and customers calling either the Warner Robins or Macon stores that day would have heard this on the recording:

“Thank you for calling. Unfortunately, all Big Lots stores will be closing soon. But we’re still open, and the entire store is on sale. When it’s gone, it’s gone.”
