The body was found down an embankment just north of Bass Road. Bibb County sheriff’s deputies had the road blocked off while the body was removed.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Roberts lived in nearby Riverwalk Apartments. She had no identification on her when she was found, but investigators soon learned her name.
Jones said that from the state of the body it was clear she had been killed sometime Sunday morning.
The death was the second homicide of the weekend in Macon and the 11th of the year, including the May 5 death of Deputy T.J. Freeman, who was killed when his vehicle was struck by a fleeing suspect. The suspect was charged with murder.
In nine of the homicides the cause of death was gunshot wounds. The other was a stabbing that happened Saturday.
