Miss America Betty Cantrell to visit Macon's Mount de Sales

Miss America Betty Cantrell is returning to the high school theater that helped ignite her passion for performing.

The 21-year-old, who graduated from Mount de Sales Academy in 2012, will visit her alma mater Wednesday and visit with faculty and students in the David J. Zuver Performing Arts Center on campus.

Cantrell, who starred as Dorothy in the academy's production of "The Wizard of Oz," performed an aria in the talent portion of the national pageant.

She is expected to sing in a student assembly, speak about her Healthy Children, Strong America platform and answer questions from students.

The former Miss Warner Robins, who was crowned Miss Georgia last summer, also will have a private meeting with fine arts and drama students at the private Catholic school in downtown Macon.

She will be sporting a new hairdo since donating locks of her long brown hair last month to make wigs for sick children.

Cantrell sang Monday at the opening of the Georgia General Assembly.
