Labor Day is on Monday, Sept. 1 this year, so while you’re busy resting or taking a day trip to the lake, don’t forget that several businesses will be closed for the holiday.

Here’s what to know:

What grocery stores will be closed in Macon on Labor Day 2025?

Open stores include:

  • Publix
  • Kroger
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Whole Foods

Sam’s Club and ALDI will also be open with adjusted hours. CVS and Walgreens will be open, but pharmacy hours may vary.

What about liquor stores?

Most liquor stores will be open in Macon on Labor Day. However, some may close early, so it is best to call ahead to make sure.

What retail locations will be closed?

Most major retail shops will be open. Additionally, discount stores like Dollar General and Big Lots as well as home improvement stores like Lowe’s will be open.

What restaurants in Macon will be closed?

Some local restaurants will be closed for the holiday, but there are several chain restaurants and fast food spots that will be open:

  • Chick-fil-A
  • Bonefish Grill
  • Firehouse Subs
  • Longhorn Steakhouse
  • Olive Garden
  • Panera Bread
  • Subway
  • Chili’s 
  • Outback Steakhouse
  • Texas Roadhouse

What offices will be closed?

Most federal government offices, public libraries and banks are closed on Labor Day. Schools are also closed.

Will mail be delivered?

No, USPS will not operate. FedEx will also not be operating on Labor Day. Exceptions are FedEx Custom Critical deliveries and UPS Express Critical shipments.
