A 2-year-old died in a possible drowning at a home in Forsyth Saturday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 4:45 p.m. to a “possible drowning at a residence” in a rural area off Gose Road, a news release from the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies arrived and saw CPR being performed on the child, the release said.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, deputies said.

The child’s death appeared to be a “tragic accident,” according to a preliminary report from the sheriff’s office.

The case was still under investigation Monday afternoon, according to Anna Greene Watkins, public information officer for the MCSO.

“Please keep this family in your prayers during this difficult time,” Watkins said.
