Driver, teen passenger die in ‘one of the worst’ crashes in Monroe County, coroner says
A second victim has died after two vehicles crashed Thursday morning in Forsyth, according to the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.
An SUV overcorrected and swerved into oncoming traffic, striking a Chevrolet sedan on Highway 42, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said.
“It was one of the worst head-on collisions I have seen,” Coroner Joey Proctor told The Telegraph.
A news release from the sheriff’s office initially said the 13-year-old passenger in the sedan, Jaelyn McVeigh, had non-life-threatening injures.
Proctor said McVeigh was later pronounced dead due to “severe chest injuries.”
The SUV driver, 41-year-old Macon resident Hollie Ehrie, was pronounced dead at the scene, Proctor confirmed.
Two passengers in the SUV, were recovering from “serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” the sheriff’s office said.
It was unclear how fast each vehicle was traveling, Proctor said.
The incident was still under investigation Friday.
