Several injured, 1 dead after SUV collides with oncoming traffic in Monroe County
Four people were injured and an SUV driver died after crashing into oncoming traffic Thursday in Forsyth, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the incident around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 42 near Boxankle Road, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The SUV was headed northbound when it “appeared to have run off the road, over-corrected and veered into the southbound lane striking a Chevy sedan,” deputies said.
The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of its passengers were taken to a Macon hospital with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” the news release said.
The Chevrolet sedan driver was flown to an Atlanta hospital and a passenger in that car was taken to a Macon hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash was still under investigation Thursday morning.
