Two Middle Georgia men died after their cars collided at high speed in south Macon Wednesday night, officials said.

The crash happened at about 5 p.m. right next to Smiley’s Flea Market at the intersection of Hawkinsville Road and Cochran Field Road, according to a press release from Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Tommy Keith Smith, 59, of Jones County pulled out from Cochran Field to drive cross Hawkinsville in his Honda Accord.

Smith drove across the road just as William Noah Jones, 20, of Macon was driving south down Hawkinsville Road in his Acura.

Jones’s RXS collided with Smith’s Accord, sending both vehicles hurtling into the median, where they both turned over.

Jones and Smith were both dead at the scene, Bibb deputy coroner Leon Jones said. Their next of kin were notified.

The crash comes less than a week after another crash involving a bicycle in Macon last week.
