Cyclist killed in hit-and-run on Irwinton Road in east Macon Saturday morning

A cyclist was killed in east Macon Saturday morning after he was struck by two different vehicles on Irwinton Road, near its intersection with Crystal Lake Drive.

The cyclist, who was traveling east on Irwinton Road according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones told the Telegraph. The victim was later identified as Rupert Shane Ward, 50, Jones said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the second vehicle remained on the scene, but the driver of the first vehicle that struck the cyclist drove away before emergency responders arrived.
