Murder arrest made in fatal shooting of 16-year-old outside a Family Dollar in Macon

A 17-year-old has been arrested in the shooting of a 16-year-old outside a Family Dollar in Macon last week.

Tyreon Tyrese Parks of Macon turned himself over to Bibb County sheriff’s investigators late Monday afternoon and was charged with murder after being interviewed, according to a sheriff’s release.

Devaun Patton of Macon died at 10 p.m. Friday in an operating room of the Medical Center, Navicent Health, after a fight escalated into shooting earlier that night, according to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

The fight, which happened just before 8:30 p.m., was among several people in the parking lot of the Family Dollar at 2584 Rocky Creek Road, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

During the fight, Parks pulled a gun and fired a shot, according to the sheriff’s office.

Patton was struck in the abdomen, according to the release.
