Severe storms possible for Middle Georgia by late Wednesday afternoon, NWS says
Strong to severe storms are possible for much of Middle Georgia, including the Macon-Bibb area, Wednesday afternoon through overnight, a National Weather Service meteorologist says.
The risk is slight, which is a level of 2 out of 5, for severe weather.
“We are expecting a line of storms to roll through this afternoon and into this evening,” said Ty Vaughn, a meteorologist for the NWS in Peachtree City. “Most of what we’re expecting for these storms is the potential for severe winds exceeding 50 miles per hour.
“As far as timing goes, I expect them to arrive in the Macon-Bibb area ... anywhere from 4 to 6 o’clock depending on how quickly they move,” he said.
Hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, according to the forecast.
The main line of storms is expected to go through late this afternoon and early evening, and then there’s some scattered rain and a chance of few thunderstorms behind it, Vaughn said.
The storms are expected to clear out in the overnight hours, he said.
Stay on top of the forecast, secure things outside and bring pets inside, Vaughn advised.
