Severe storms down trees, damage buildings in Middle Georgia

A line of severe storms that blew through Middle Georgia during the early hours Monday felled trees and damaged businesses, but no injuries have been reported.

Downed trees were reported throughout north Macon. High winds damaged a Walgreens on Zebulon Road and several homes were hit by falling trees and limbs on Huddersfield Road in the Stone Edge subdivision.

Damage most likely caused by a tornado was reported in Putnam County northeast of Bibb County, according to the Eatonton Messenger, causing some structural damage but no injuries or deaths.

Across the state, tens of thousands of Georgians were without power early Monday morning, and seven deaths have been reported. Georgia Power Company reported several thousand people were without power in Middle Georgia, including more than 2,000 in north and northwest Macon as of 10 a.m.
