Multiple arrests, vehicles, guns and other stolen goods recovered by Bibb deputies

An alarm sounding on a stolen 2003 Infiniti FX35 was the start of an incident this past weekend that led to the arrests of five people and the recovery of vehicles, weapons and other stolen property.

About 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the car’s alarm sounded from the parking lot of Homewood Suites at 1514 Bass Road, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. A witness saw two people getting into the car. The car was followed by others in a red 2015 Ford Escape.

A be-on-the-lookout was posted for the vehicles and deputies spotted them in the parking lot of the nearby Flash Foods at 1608 Bass Road.

Three of the five suspects were taken into custody after a brief foot chase. Two attempted to escape in the sports utility vehicle but abandoned it behind the gas station and were taken into custody also after a brief foot chase.

Kalongki Andretti Chapman, 20, of Albany, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by taking and theft by receiving stolen property, according to the post.

Deuntra Ayers, 19, and Demarcious Linte Johnson, 17, both of Albany, were charged with theft by taking and theft by receiving stolen property, the post said.

Two 15-year-olds were taken to separate regional youth detention centers, according to the post.

Three stolen handguns were recovered, two inside on of the stolen vehicles and one on Chapman, the post said.

Also recovered in the vehicles that were reported stolen out of Albany were lap tops, jewelry, cell phones, wallets, knifes and other stolen property. An undisclosed amount of cash was also recovered.
