Macon man who left behind a fingerprint heads to prison for armed robberies

A man who left behind a fingerprint at a crime scene was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for robbing two Macon businesses at gunpoint.

Dion Khalil Vanzie, 22, of Macon, also received five years on probation upon release from prison after pleading guilty to two counts of armed robbery.

Feb. 4, Vanzie was captured on surveillance video demanding money at gunpoint from a clerk at Game Stop at 1473 Gray Highway, according to the prosecution. He stole cash, Xbox games and controllers.

He also left behind a fingerprint on a game left at the store, prosecutors said.

July 8, 2018, Vanzie was captured on surveillance video demanding money at gunpoint from a clerk inside a Walgreens at 1280 Gray Highway, according to the prosecution.

Vanzie was arrested March 12.

“Mr. Vanzie put multiple lives at risk all for the sake of a handful of dollars and video games,” Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said in a statement. “For putting these lives in danger, he’s paying a very heavy price. I hope this will not only be a lesson to him, but to anyone else who’d consider such a foolish and dangerous crime.”
