QuikTrip’s opening date for new Macon location has changed. Here are the details.
QuikTrip, an Oklahoma-based convenience store and gas station chain, has moved back its opening date for its first Middle Georgia location.
Mike Thornbrugh, a company spokesman, said he estimated in May 2019 that the store would open during the summer of 2020, but he told the Telegraph recently that it would probably open in late 2020 or early 2021.
“We’ve got so much going on right now as a company that some of the planned locations we have are pushed back a little bit… which is a nice problem to have,” he said.
QuikTrip chose to open a store in Macon because they are trying to fill locations where they don’t have a presence, Thornbrugh said.
“We’re continuing to grow, and our footprint is going to get larger,” he said. “Honestly, it’s really just kind of connecting the dots in where we currently already operate. It just made perfect, logistical sense to us.”
Thornbrugh said the company does not disclose how large of an investment it plans to make in a certain area, but he said it would be substantial.
“We don’t cut corners on anything in regards to construction and the quality of it,” he said.
The property, previously owned by Timothy David Thornton, was purchased by QuikTrip for more than $1.4 million, according to Macon-Bibb County Board of Tax Assessors’ website.
The store will be nearly 7,000-square-feet and will employ around 20 to 25 people. It is located near Amazon’s 1-million square-foot fulfillment center on Sardis Church Road at the intersection with Skipper and Nowell roads.
“We promise you the customer service is going to be better than anybody’s ever had. Our people are great,” he said.
