Her lungs didn’t work 5 years ago; now she’s a show stopper on America’s Got Talent
An Instagram photo of Angelica Hale shows a big grin on her face as golden confetti falls from overhead.
“Can’t handle the cuteness,” is what America’s Got Talent captioned the image of the smiling 9-year-girl from Atlanta.
Angelica belted out the Alicia Keys’ hit “Girls On Fire” on the NBC variety competition and earned a “golden buzzer” from Chris Hardwick during Tuesday night’s broadcast.
At the end of the song, Hardwick’s mouth was gaping open as the audience applauded.
She waved one hand above her head and then exhaled nervously as she waited for word from the judges.
Hardwick said he was blown away by the pint-sized singer.
“You’ve got these like sneakers on, and you look like this adorable little child and then you open your mouth and it’s like, ‘How do those pipes fit in that tiny body?’” Hardwick asked.
She giggled and said “Thank you.”
“I just feel like... Angelica, you are the chosen one!”
“Oh my god,” she said as Hardwick slapped his buzzer and sent the shower of golden confetti down on the little girl who doubled over in tears.
Hardwick jumped up to the stage and hugged Angelica and gave her a big “high five.”
“You are amazing!” he told her.
Hardwick’s golden buzzer sends the girl to the next round of competition.
The judges also were blown away by Angelica’s first appearance on the show June 6.
The little girl who started signing at age 2 had a health crisis that nearly killed her two years later.
According to her Facebook page, Angelica came down with double pneumonia due to an aggressive bacteria in her lungs.
Machines kept her alive after her heart, lungs and kidneys stopped functioning.
Her mother donated a kidney in September of 2013.
Nearly four years later, Angelica’s career is taking off.
She thanked her fans on Facebook.
“My journey is only beginning and I truly can’t wait to see where it leads. God bless you all!”
