Two free COVID-19 testing events are scheduled for Tuesday in Macon.

The Community Empowerment Center is teaming up with the Macon Community Church of God to administer 2,000 COVID-19 and antibody tests from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Church of God at 5555 Bethesda Ave.

The center and church are also looking to expand to Saturday testing, but need medical and healthcare workers to help administer testing. Those interested in this opportunity can email resumes to admin@maconcommunity.church.

The second testing event will be held at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 777 Elm St. The church is joining with Historic Macon and Georgia’s Army National Guard to offer free COVID-19 tests for residents ages 18 and older, without a referral.

Last week, the organizations administered 75 swab tests as online registration filled up completely before the event. This week, the groups will offer the same swab tests. The swab test is not an antibody test, for which blood is drawn. No blood will be drawn at this event.

On the day of the test, residents will need to provide a phone number during registration. Test results will be sent to them by phone within 72 hours.

There have been nearly 30,000 cases of coronavirus in the state as of noon Monday, with over 1,200 deaths as a result of the virus. Georgia has recently ramped up the number of tests public and private labs are completing, with a high of 13,000 last Tuesday.
