Historic Macon, Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and National Guard to provide free COVID-19 testing
Historic Macon, Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and Georgia’s Army National Guard will provide free COVID-19 tests, starting Tuesday.
The first round of free testing is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., but the organizations said online registration for the roughly 75 test kits is already full. A second round of free testing is slated for May 5, with 100 tests available. To register, visit natguardcovidtesting.eventbrite.com
The swab tests can detect the presence of coronavirus, but not whether someone has had COVID-19 and recovered. That antibody test, requires blood to be drawn. The program is open to residents ages 18 and older without a referral.
On the day of the test, residents will need to provide a phone number. Test results will be sent to them by phone within 72 hours.
In its noon update, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported more than 23,750 confirmed coronavirus cases and 942 deaths. State and private labs have conducted 127,169 COVID-19 tests.
