Fees, regular schedules to resume for Macon bus system. No paper money accepted.
Starting Monday, the public bus service in Macon will reinstate fees and resume regular route schedules. But paper currency won’t be accepted and only 10 people will be allowed on a bus in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
That’s the latest from the Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority.
Additionally, riders must continue to wear masks and submit to temperature checks when they board outside the transfer station.
The $1.25 fix-route and $2.50 paratransit-route fees are payable via automated coin counters on buses. The coin counters eliminate the need to handle paper money.
Riders may also pay using MTA smart cards and through token transit via smartphones, said Jami Gaudet, MTA public information officer.
MTA is also reopening the transfer station, with people required to maintain social distancing of 6 feet apart and to wear a face covering affixed to their head. Only one person is allowed at a time in each restroom at the transfer station.
Other initiatives initiated during the coronavirus pandemic that remain in place include:
▪ Young people under 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult.
▪ Paratransit riders must continue to call to schedule trips at 478-803-2521.
▪ The terminal station remains closed for transit business and its restrooms remain closed.
For more information, call 478-803-2504 or 478-803-2505 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Fridays or 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturdays, or visit the MTA website at mta-mac.com or its Facebook page.
