European manufacturer picks Macon for North American headquarters, will invest $57M
A European steel manufacturer announced Monday it would establish its first North American headquarters in Macon-Bibb County, promising new jobs for Georgians.
ArcelorMittal Building Solutions, of Luxembourg, will invest about $57 million to build its headquarters and a new manufacturing facility in Macon, according to a news release from Gov. Brian Kemp on Monday.
It will be located at the Airport South site in Macon, with construction beginning in the second half of 2026.
Operations are expected to start a year later, in the second half of 2027, “subject to customary permitting and approvals,” the news release said.
The investment will bring 70 new jobs to the community, including production, logistics, management and sales roles, according to the news release.
Kemp mentioned an additional $50 million investment in the production, which will add 70 more jobs over the next several years, according to the news release.
“Their decision to establish the North American headquarters in Macon-Bibb is also further proof that Georgia is the best place for business and opportunity, well beyond our state borders,” Kemp said.
ArcelorMittal serves construction markets worldwide, manufacturing building envelope systems to insulate warehouses, factories, data centers and commercial buildings. The company will build on its “longstanding presence in the United States, which includes world-class steelmaking, finishing, manufacturing, research and development and sales/support locations that employ more than 3,200 people across nine states,” the news release said.
“We see strong and sustained demand for high-performance building solutions, driven by growth in logistics, manufacturing, and data center infrastructure,” said Jean Christophe Kennel, CEO of ArcelorMittal Building Solutions. “We are bringing advanced insulated panel manufacturing closer to our customers, with a focus on speed, reliability, and consistent quality.”
“We selected Macon for its workforce, industrial base and the strong support from local and state partners,” Kennel said in the release.
This announcement follows the expansion of Unified Legacy, another manufacturing company, from Byron to Macon, according to a news release from Kemp on May 15. The company will invest $125 million in a facility on Barnes Ferry Road. It’s expected to bring at least 500 new jobs.
