After decades, this popular doughnut shop will close its doors in Macon

A Krispy Kreme location in Macon plans to close its doors for good leaving only one of the famous doughnut shops remaining in Macon-Bibb County.

The Krispy Kreme on North Avenue plans to officially close its doors in late December, according to a statement from Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

“We are closing our location on North Avenue in Macon, Georgia due to the sale of the property which was leased by Krispy Kreme,” read the statement.

Employees at the North Avenue location will have the opportunity to relocate to the doughnut shop at 2800 Pio Nono Avenue, the last Krispy Kreme location in Macon.

“It is a privilege to be part of the Macon community, and we look forward to continuing to serve our guests there,” read the statement.

QuikTrip Corporation bought the property at 519 North Ave. in January 2022 for $1.8 million, according to property tax records. QuikTrip Corporation also bought the property directly behind the lot the Krispy Kreme sits on the same day for $400,000.

QuikTrip announced its plans to open multiple gas stations in the Middle Georgia area in 2021, including plans to build a gas station behind the Krispy Kreme on North Avenue.

Krispy Kreme came to Macon in 1972 beginning with its Pio Nono Avenue location. The brand later opened the satellite store on North Avenue, according to Telegraph archives.

In the 1980’s, Krispy Kreme had at least four locations in Macon until its store at 2754 Riverside Drive closed in 1989. When the North Avenue shop closes in December, the original Pio Nono Avenue location will be the last Krispy Kreme in Macon.
