QuikTrip is adding multiple Middle Georgia locations. Is a new store opening near you?
A popular Oklahoma-based chain of convenience stores and gas stations is expanding farther into Middle Georgia with multiple new stores coming.
In March, QuikTrip opened its first travel center in Middle Georgia at 4934 Sardis Church Road off Interstate 75 in south Bibb County.
Today, a half-dozen or more QuikTrip stores with a smaller footprint than the travel center are under construction or in the planning stages in the region — including three-to-five new stores planned for Macon, according to Aisha Jefferson-Smith, corporate communications manager for QuikTrip Corporation.
“We look forward to introducing our unique QuikTrip brand and culture to our new community,” Jefferson-Smith said. “The travel center and the additional new store models allow us to create meaningful connections with our new local customers and serve travelers in this busy part of Georgia.”
In its 63-year history, QuikTrip has expanded across 12 states with more than 900 stores, Jefferson-Smith said. That includes 144 stores now operating in Georgia.
Here’s a roundup of QuikTrip locations coming to Middle Georgia:
Macon
Bibb County recently sold a third of an acre for about $86,250 to the QuikTrip Corporation and closed a city street to make room for a QuikTrip store between Emery Highway and North Avenue in Macon. The county closed Wilson Street, with the new QuikTrip to be located behind Krispy Kreme.
“This location is currently in the early development stages,” Jefferson-Smith said. “Once approvals are completed, we’d like to be able to start construction next spring. If that’s the case, we would plan to open in late fall or early winter next year.”
A planned QuikTrip at 5129 Mercer University Drive near the northbound ramp of I-475 in west Macon is now expected to be about 5,200 square feet. Located on a 3.5 acre lot, the gas station is expected to have 16 gasoline pumps and two truck diesel bays.
“The QuikTrip Kitchen will offer a full-service kitchen with fresh, made-to-order snackles, as well as fresh food delivered daily through its bakeries and commissaries,” Jefferson-Smith said.
Part snack, part meal, a snackle is a QuikTrip term for its food and drink offerings from pizza to a vanilla cone to a grilled cheese sandwich.
Based on how quickly the Mercer University Drive store goes through the approval process, “We’d like to start construction late winter of ‘22,” Jefferson-Smith said.
“If that’s the case, the store would very likely open in late fall or early winter next year.”
Another planned QuikTrip location off Riverside Drive includes the demolition of a former Bank of America building and the former Natalia’s restaurant location to make room for the construction of nearly 5,000 square foot store. The site will include a 100-foot-tall sign visible from nearby Interstate 75.
QuikTrip also is considering two more possible locations in Bibb County, according to Jefferson-Smith.
“It’s too early to disclose the locations as we are currently in the talking and planning phases,” Jefferson-Smith said.
Warner Robins
The long-vacant Logan’s Roadhouse at 2701 Watson Blvd. in Warner Robins came down to make room for the second planned Warner Robins QuikTrip location on the 2.18 acre site.
Bulldozers started tearing into the structure Monday, with only rubble left by Thursday.
The 4,993 square foot convenience store is expected to have eight gas station islands and open in the spring of 2022.
“This location is currently in the talking/planning stages,” Jefferson-Smith said.
The first QuikTrip location in Warner Robins is nearly finished at the corner of Watson Boulevard/Ga 247 Connector and Peavy Road near I-75. The 4,993 square foot building has 10 gas station islands.
It’s expected to open by late December, Jefferson-Smith said.
Forsyth
Additionally, a 7,500 square foot QuikTrip is coming to the city of Forsyth at the corner of Ga. 18, also known as Harold G. Clarke Parkway, and Patrol Road, behind Hutchinson Ford KIA.
The store is expected to have gasoline pumps in the front and diesel pumps in the back. A 100-foot sign has been approved for the property.
The new store is expected to open in late winter of 2022, according to Jefferson-Smith
