A company is investing $150 million to bring 100 new jobs to Middle Georgia. Here’s how

Nichiha USA is investing $150 million into its Macon facility to bring an estimated 100 new jobs to Middle Georgia, the fiber cement company announced late last month.

The investment will expand the Macon plant’s tech abilities and produce more products, according to a press release from Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority.

The facility, located in on Avondale Mill Road in South Macon just off of I-75, will now rely less on imports and provide jobs to Middle Georgians ranging from warehouse work to management positions.

The $150 million also adds an additional 500,000 square feet to the campus, turning it from one plant into two plants and a new warehouse. It is the second expansion in four years for the Japan-based company’s Macon plant.

“For more than 16 years, Nichiha has been a staple international industry in Macon-Bibb County,” said Robby Fountain, chairman of the Industrial Authority. “The addition and expansion of their existing plant and the projected growth of their workforce speak to the great value that our community brings to Nichiha and all our existing industry partners.”

The jobs will offer experience in advanced manufacturing as well as full benefits.

Nichiha has been manufacturing high-tech construction materials in Japan since 1950 and opened its Macon facility in 2006.

“We are excited to expand our operations with state-of-the-art production technologies that allow us to make our award-winning Architectural Wall Panels right here in Macon,” Nichiha USA CEO Hideto Yoshida said in the release. “This significant investment will support our efforts to serve our industry more efficiently as we continue to grow our business in North America.”
