New shop opening in downtown Macon offers customers ‘a style and glam experience’

Friends since middle school, Brittany Girtman and Curtisse Ewing are opening a new shop in their hometown of Macon next month.

Their store, The Girls Room A Style and Glam Experience, is located at 452 Cotton Ave. in downtown Macon near the new Hotel Forty Five.

“We are making it into a glam experience,” Girtman said. “You can come in, get you some shoes, a purse or jewelry. That’s the style side.

“And the glam comes in if you want your makeup done or you want your eyebrows done.”

At first, Girtman said she wanted to do a clothing store with the makeup side. But she started to think about what downtown Macon didn’t have to offer. That’s when she saw a friend’s Facebook post about a need for a women’s shoe store.

“I love shoes,” Girtman said. “I have more shoes than I have clothes, so it was a no-brainer to me.”

What to expect

At The Girls Room, customers can expect to find shoes for every occasion.

“I want to have shoes for if you come in to work for the business end,” Girtman said. “If you’re going out for a night on the town, I want to have the stilettos, the high heels, and I also want to have shoes for comfort as well for the ladies that don’t necessarily like to wear heels like flats, like sandals.

“For the teenagers that are in high school, I want to make sure I have sandals or age-appropriate shoes for them. I really want to make sure I hit every avenue when it comes to shoes.”

Ewing,a makeup artist, has been doing makeup for about five years for various employers but dreamed of having her own spot.

Natives of Macon, Ewing and Girtman have been friends since they went to middle school at Miller and later Central High School.

“It’s so funny because we used to make vision boards together when we were teenagers,” Ewing said. “But then life kinda happened.

“We both went off to school and life happened faster for Brittany than it did for me. And so she already had her own business and we thought, you know, maybe we’ll do it a little later along the line.”

Girtman and Jamice Terry had opened Commander in Chic at 446 Cotton Ave. in downtown Macon in 2021. Last year, Girtman decided to go out on her own and Terry changed the name of the men and women’s clothing store to Chic Culture Inc. after they parted ways.

Girtman and Ewing decided to team up to bring The Girls Rooms to downtown.

‘Something new’

“I’m excited to bring something new — something I feel like is going to be fun,” Ewing said.

While Girtman works in the insurance industry, her passion has always been fashion.

“Ever since I was in high school, that’s always been my thing,” Girtman said. “So that’s what I enjoy.”

The Girls Room will open in style with a grand opening at 4 p.m. March 12 with a DJ, ribbon cutting and wine for customers to sip while shopping or getting their makeup done.

Regular business hours are expected to be from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
