Cobb Sheriff's deputy recognized after helping woman in labor
A deputy with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office is being recognized after he helped a woman who went into labor while stuck in traffic get to the hospital safely.
Sgt. Jameel Fraser was driving to work along Dallas Highway on April 27 when he was flagged down by a pedestrian who said a woman had gone into labor in the backseat of a car while stuck in traffic. Fraser checked on the woman and confirmed that her water had broken.
With traffic at a standstill, Fraser put his sirens on and escorted the woman, Decoshia Chambers, along with the child's father, James Chambers Sr., to a nearby hospital.
The couple welcomed their child, James Chambers Jr., shortly after arriving at the hospital. The child was born on his father's birthday.
"What could have been a very overwhelming situation turned into a safe and joyful outcome thanks to Sgt. Fraser's quick thinking, calm demeanor, and decisive action," the Cobb County Sheriff's Office said.
