Three veterans graduate from Cobb County Veterans Treatment Court
The Cobb County Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court graduated three veteran participants during a 9:30 a.m. ceremony on May 15 at the Cobb County Superior Court Building, 70 Haynes Street in Marietta.
Including this graduation, 75 participants have completed the 18-to-24-month intensive VATC treatment program.
"These men and women served their country with honor, and it is our duty to honor that service in return. The road through this program is not easy - it demands honesty, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to change. To see these three veterans stand here today, surrounded by their mentors and their families, is a profound reminder of their resilience - and proof that with the right support, there is no limit to what they can accomplish," said Cobb County Judge Robert D. Leonard.
Cobb County VATC participants receive alcohol and drug treatment through services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. When a participant is stable in their recovery and treatment, the VATC team addresses other issues which hinder an enrollee's success, such as unemployment, lack of stable housing, the need for continuing education or the benefits of family counseling. One of the unique aspects of the VATC is the Mentor Program. Each VATC participant is paired with a veteran who understands the challenges encountered by those in recovery and helps the participant succeed in the program.
