Marietta sewer replacement project to bring traffic changes

Marietta Water will begin construction on the Upper ER Sewer Replacement Project, a major infrastructure upgrade designed to replace aging sewer lines, improve system reliability and support continued growth in the area surrounding Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center.

The project includes the replacement of approximately 3,800 linear feet of sewer mains ranging from 8 to 12 inches in diameter. The existing sewer line has reached the end of its service life and requires replacement to maintain reliable service. The upgraded sewer system will also provide additional capacity to accommodate future demand.

Construction will begin at the intersection of Allgood Road and Avery Street on May 18 and continue in phases along Allgood Road, Wellons Street, Pine Street, Etowah Drive, Chicopee Drive, Cherokee Street, Cherry Street and Church Street. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2027.

Residents and motorists should expect temporary lane closures and detours in active work areas as work progresses through each phase of the project. Trenchless construction methods will be utilized where possible to reduce surface disruption and help minimize impacts to traffic and nearby properties.

Access to homes, businesses and emergency services will be maintained throughout construction. Motorists should take extra caution in work areas to help protect construction crews and allow additional travel time due to possible traffic delays.

Residents with questions about the project can contact: Marietta Water's Jacob DeWoody, engineering manager at jdewoody@mariettaga.gov or 770-794-5186.
