Fair set to enter guilty plea in Whitehead slaying
Antron Fair, one of two men facing the death penalty in the 2006 slaying of a Bibb County deputy, is scheduled to enter a guilty plea Friday, according to multiple sources familiar with the case.
His co-defendant, Damon Jolly, also is slated to appear Friday in Bibb Superior Court at a separate hearing, during which attorneys will discuss matters in preparation for his trial. That proceeding is scheduled to begin in Chatham County with jury selection Nov. 25.
Bibb County District Attorney Greg Winters declined to comment Tuesday night.
Fair, 27, and Jolly, 26, are charged with murder in the March 23, 2006, shooting death of deputy Joseph Whitehead. Whitehead died while serving a “no knock” warrant at an Atherton Street house off Montpelier Avenue.
Jolly and Fair have been held at the Bibb County jail for more than six years. Since their arrests, the case against both men was re-indicted. Also, the cases were sent to the Georgia Supreme Court for pretrial review on two occasions.
