The Macon Telegraph is changing its print schedule, focusing online. How it helps readers.
Anyone who regularly reads, watches or listens to the news these days has most certainly become aware of one thing: If you’re looking for journalists who move fast, nail the story and give you important information you need for your life, you’re going to find their best work online.
We’ve noticed that too. And in order for us to bring you our best work possible, we’ve decided to embrace our online platforms and reduce printing of The Macon Telegraph to two days per week.
This move will ensure that you, our readers, are getting the best news product possible on both our print and digital platforms.
For print, a reduction to two days per week ensures that we have the time, the resources and the preparation to make sure that every time you get your paper, it’s stuffed full of in-depth reporting. Think about a paper that has good accountability work and strong feature stories every time you pick it up.
On our website, this move gives us the freedom to more aggressively pursue quality reporting that we can bring to you online. This is not something we’re doing without bearing the wishes of our readers in mind, and our readers have shown us what they prefer: good journalism, no matter the format.
The vast majority of our subscribers find us online – whether it be through our new and highly interactive Edition, our social media pages on Twitter/X, Facebook and Instagram, or macon.com, where readers can find up-to-the-minute breaking news all hours of the day.
You’ve already moved online, and we’re following you there. We’re excited for this, and we hope you are too! All we want to do is provide you the best reporting we can – with more depth and timeliness than anyone else can provide. And an online focus makes us so much more capable of that than we used to be.
Let’s be clear: This is not a sign that our quality of work is dropping. In fact, you should take it as a sign that it’s getting better. The Macon Telegraph is in its 198th year of publication. We’re an award-winning news outlet, and we expect that this change will allow us to focus as much of our attention as possible on carrying on that work for another two centuries (and beyond).
So what can you expect to happen next? On Aug. 19, we will reduce our number of print days to two per week. For our print subscribers, you will get two great papers on Wednesday and Saturday.
In the meantime, I encourage you to take full advantage of everything we have to offer digitally. Our Edition gives you breaking news, in-depth accountability work, impactful features and national stories that have local impacts, and it’s published seven days a week online.
You can also find fresh news 24/7 at macon.com. You’ll find more news on our website than in any of our other products.
