Two stores at River Crossing to close in January

Christopher & Banks, which announced earlier this month it would close 100 stores nationwide, has now disclosed which stores will close.

The Minneapolis-based speciality women’s apparel retailer is closing both its stores at The Shoppes at River Crossing in north Bibb County, according to a news release.

The company owns the Christopher & Banks store at River Crossing, which sells misses and petit sizes, and the CJ Banks store, which sells plus-size clothing, said company spokeswoman April Nelson.

All stores will remain open through Jan. 24, the release stated. Each store employs eight to 10 people.

“These decisions are never easy but are critical to our financial health,” senior vice president Monica Dahl, said in the release.

When the shopping center developer announced in September 2007 that the stores were coming to River Crossing, it was the company’s first foray into Georgia. Since then four other stores have opened in the state, which will remain open.

The company’s earlier news release stated almost all the stores that are closing “are underperforming.”

As of Nov. 11, Christopher & Banks operated 761 stores in 45 states.
