Telegraph employee, brother accused of metal theft

A Telegraph employee and his brother were arrested Monday after allegedly attempting to steal scrap metal from a neighboring business, according to a Macon police news release.

Police were notified of a theft in progress and responded to The Telegraph, located at 120 Broadway, late Monday afternoon. There they spotted two men using The Telegraph's flatbed truck and a forklift to load scrap metal from neighboring Macon Machine, located at 313 Walnut St., the news release states.

Police identified the men as Telegraph employee David Lucas, 50, and his brother, Bradley Lucas, a former employee of Macon Machine.

A witness confronted David Lucas, who then allegedly attempted to run him over with the forklift, the news release states.

Both brothers were charged with criminal trespass, two counts of theft by taking-auto and two counts of theft by taking-metal. In addition, David Lucas was charged with aggravated assault.
